Rosie Gibbens makes videos, performances and sculptures that use absurdity to explore gender performativity, consumerist desire and their overlaps.
The mindset behind Rosie’s work is often of someone attempting to participate seamlessly in contemporary life or womanhood, but not quite managing. She wants to question socially constructed rules about how to behave through art that is simultaneously silly and serious.
Rosie Gibbens studied an MA in Contemporary Art Practice at the Royal College of Art (2018) in the performance pathway. Recent presentations of her work in London include. ‘Anti-social Isolation’ at Saatchi Gallery, ‘Ridiculous’ at Elephant West and ‘Visions at the Nunnery’ at Bow Arts. Internationally she has shown at Salon Acme in Mexico City, Lovelite gallery in Berlin and for Revolve performance festival in Uppsala Sweden, among others.
