Q&A
Dimitra Kondylatou
What’s your background?
I have a background in fine and visual arts. I also have worked for a long time in my family’s tourist guesthouse, on the mountains of Lefkada. My personal involvement and insight into the tourism sector, soon became the fieldwork for my artistic research and work.
What influences you artistically?
People, works, texts, films, that stand in-between categories, forms, disciplines, media, that combine and compose, that raise positions against dominant forms of power, and whose form and content are cohesive.
How do you start a new work?
I don't always follow the same process but I usually start with research, reading and fieldwork. There are a few elements I may already have in mind, in my archive (composed of material on the topics I am interested in), or that emerge during the research. These may be an image, a text, an experience, a location, an object. I then try to find or generate correspondences between these different elements.
What are you working on right now?
I am working on a short film about the first encounter between two people and a landscape, and on a research project on thermal tourism.
