Sophie Lee

Working between sculpture and moving image Sophie Lee weaves ideas about history and cultural production together with more oblique narratives of the everyday.

Sophie Lee received a BA from the Slade School of Fine Art in 2012 and has recently completed residencies at de Ateliers, Amsterdam (2016 – 2018) and Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Maine (2018). Lee currently lives and works between Amsterdam and Berlin.

Recent and upcoming exhibitions and screenings include Althuis Hofland Fine Arts, Amsterdam; November Film Festival, London; The Horse Hospital, London; Galerie Juliette Jongma, Amsterdam; the Whitstable Biennial; Zona Mista, London; Yaby, Madrid; MOSTYN Gallery, Lladudno and Rowing Projects, London.

Sophie Lee’s interests include sweaty t-shirts, nuns, domesticity, exhaustion, desire, friendship, states of ecstasy, the voice, chiaroscuro, fridge sounds and contact lenses.
