‘Only Salt’ is a short experimental documentary piece. Through long static shots the camera captures the movements of people within a mountainous landscape. Viewed from high above, the people seem dwarfed within this world. Looking at themes of temporality and alienation within the modern world, the film crafts an almost alien world out of several very ordinary scenes. The film raises questions of modern man’s position and connection to the world around us. The slow nature of the film presents itself as an inversion of today’s speed and underlines the spatio-temporal nature of human life. In several long takes, it challenges the attention span of the audience, and hopes to provide a place of solace from the fast paced media landscape that surrounds us.
